For those of you who are starting or currently running a small business, I recommend reading Seth Godin’s blog. He has a great perspective on work, business, marketing, and life in general, and I usually find something worth chewing on in his posts.
Example: recently he posted questions for people starting a business that I think are brilliant. While I won’t write all of them here, the following are a couple of examples:
- Who are you trying to please?
- Is perfect important? (Do you feel the need to fail privately, not in public?)
- Are you done personally growing, or is this project going to force you to change and develop yourself?
(Read the rest of Seth’s post here.)
These are brilliant questions because beneath any business venture you begin, no matter how large or how small, you will always find YOU: your thoughts, your beliefs, your strengths, your wants and hopes, and so on. What you think shapes how you feel, and drives what you do. And the more in tune you are with the more personal stuff, the more likely you are to create the business you love.
